A resident of the Svetloyarsky district in the Volgograd region killed her husband, a former fighter with the Wagner private military company, stabbing him after he became excessively agitated by the events of June 24. Emergency services were alerted by a local portal.
“In the wake of yesterday’s events, the man was gripped by fear that he might lose control,” a source said.
According to the source, the couple had been dining and drinking when the ex-Wagner fighter began to behave violently, threatening his wife. Unable to tolerate what was unfolding, she stabbed him with a knife. The wound was grave, and the man bled out before emergency medical teams could arrive.
On the evening of June 23, Wagner PMC chief Yevgeny Prigozhin claimed that forces from the Russian Defense Ministry targeted the group’s rear camps, and that his fighters were advancing toward Moscow in what he called a “march for justice.” The defense ministry rejected the accusations, and the Prosecutor General’s Office later filed a lawsuit against Prigozhin for organizing an armed riot.
By the morning of June 24, Wagner forces had reportedly sealed administrative buildings in Rostov-on-Don, while President Vladimir Putin began moving toward the capital. He criticized Prigozhin’s actions as a betrayal and warned the mercenary leader and his subordinates of the consequences. The State Duma, the Federation Council, and regional leaders voiced support for a tougher response, and Chechen troops from the Akhmat group were deployed to Rostov to bolster security.
Later in the day, Belarusian presidential press service included a briefing stating that negotiations between Alexander Lukashenko and Prigozhin had reached a point where both sides accepted a resolution that would guarantee security for Wagner fighters. Prigozhin, meanwhile, was reported to have decided to halt his columns and return his forces to field camps, signaling a possible de-escalation of the immediate confrontation.
