The Valencian Ministry of Economy, through the Sitval network, has begun outlining plans for four additional fixed ITV stations in the Alicante province. While a final decision remains pending, the inclination is to base these facilities partly on mobile units already deployed across the region. This move is part of a broader restart effort, with the second and concluding phase focusing on the new stations in Alicante and Elche.

Sitval completed the initial phase of the reinstatement last week, marking the public transfer of ownership for stations in Alcoy, Benidorm, Torrevieja, Villena, Redován, and Orihuela. Economy Minister Rafa Climent noted that the operation reached Alicante and Elche without incident, underscoring that those who predicted disruption were mistaken and that the transition proceeded smoothly as planned.

The concessionaires’ facilities have already been settled, and the mobile units stationed in Calp, Santa Pola, and El Campello will require refurbishment. These units are now prioritized as the core assets to restore operation as quickly as possible, using the remaining properties of the Generalitat as support for the transition.

At the same time, Sitval is advancing plans to deploy four more fixed stations across the twelve projected within the Valencian Community. Minister Climent explained that while the exact municipalities have yet to be confirmed, the aim is to serve the Alacantí region, the Las Marinas coastline, the Vinalopó area, and Vega Baja. In several cases, these fixed stations are expected to replace some of the existing mobile units. He stressed that the decision will depend on a careful assessment of each locality’s needs and practical presence on the ground.

Climent emphasized the underlying goal: bring the service closer to users. The objective is clear—no municipality should be located more than 30 kilometers from an ITV facility, and no community should face more than a half-hour journey for service.

As the rollback wraps up, the Generalitat has taken over roughly 1,200 workers, with 470 of them being state employees who had previously served the concessionaries. From the outset, the plan ensures that these workers’ salaries and working conditions are preserved and aligned with the public sector framework, easing the transition for staff and maintaining continuity in service delivery.
