The Ministry of Economy, through the Valencian ITV Association, Sitval, has initiated steps to establish four new fixed stations in the province of Alicante. While no final decision has been announced, the plan envisions these facilities arising partly from mobile units deployed across different locations. This effort forms part of a broader reversal process that progressed smoothly this Monday, marking the second and final phase with stations now located in Alicante and Elche.
Sitval completed the first phase of reinstatement last week, which transferred ownership of the stations in Alcoy, Benidorm, Torrevieja, Villena, Redován, and Orihuela to public control. Economy Minister Rafa Climent described Monday as Alicante and Elche taking their turn in what was described as a routine operation. Observers who predicted significant disruption were proved wrong as the transition was completed without incident, reinforcing the stability of the process.
The facilities previously operated by concessionaires have already been liquidated. The mobile units at Calp, Santa Pola, and El Campello will require refurbishment and are now designated as the primary assets to restart services as soon as possible, aligning with the Generalitat’s broader objectives. The careful redeployment emphasizes continuity and public accessibility as a core priority.
Looking ahead, Sitval is advancing plans to launch four additional fixed stations within the framework of the twelve stations proposed for the Valencian Community. Minister Climent notes that the precise locations of these new stations have not yet been finalized, but the goal remains clear: to serve the regions of l’Alacantí, Las Marinas, Vinalopó, and Vega Baja. In some cases, these new fixed points may replace certain existing mobile units, though the exact balance will be assessed as part of ongoing evaluations. Climent stresses that the assessment will include the involvement of municipalities to ensure practical and logistical viability.
Climent further explains that the overarching philosophy is to bring essential services closer to residents. He states that the aim is for every municipality to be within a practical distance of an ITV facility, ideally not more than 30 kilometers away and within a half-hour travel window where possible, thereby enhancing convenience and access for the public.
As the rollback reaches completion this Monday, the Generalitat has assumed responsibility for roughly 1,200 workers, with 470 of them originating from state employment. These personnel have historically supported concessionaire operations. Going forward, their salaries and working conditions will be preserved and integrated into the public sector framework to ensure fair treatment and continuity of service for users.
