The General Director of Ural Airlines, Sergei Skuratov, stated that the Airbus A320 that made an off-airport landing in a field will be brought back to service after repairs, according to TASS. He also clarified the causes of the incident, aligning with the data released by the Ministry of Emergency Situations that one of the aircraft’s three hydraulic systems failed.
Skuratov emphasized that the aircraft landed safely and sustained no external damage. It remained on its landing gear, and the airline plans to restore the plane so it can return to service. He noted that the decision to perform an emergency landing was appropriate given the situation, since the aircraft did not have enough fuel to reach the nearest airport.
In remarks on the incident, Skuratov gave credit to the flight crew for their prudent actions during the emergency. The crew’s assessment and quick thinking prevented a more serious outcome and ensured the safety of everyone onboard.
Earlier, Rosaviatsia announced that a commission would be formed to investigate the event involving the Ural Airlines aircraft in the Novosibirsk region. The Airbus A320 issued a distress signal and diverted from its intended route, landing in a field outside the airport in the Novosibirsk region, during the early hours of September 12.
All passengers on board were evacuated in an orderly fashion, and there were no reports of serious injuries. Security and emergency personnel managed the evacuation efficiently, allowing passengers to leave the aircraft quickly and safely.
Initial reports observed that Russia has seen a noticeable uptick in avian encounters by aircraft, which has prompted heightened vigilance for bird strikes in certain air routes. The aviation authorities are monitoring patterns and reinforcing safety protocols to minimize similar risks going forward.
