South Korea’s military reported that it fired two short-range ballistic missiles originating from North Korea. The briefing cited the South Korean Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee in its account.
The missiles were described as having been launched from the Changyeong district in Hwanghae-namdo province and directed toward the Sea of Japan during a window from 07:41 to 07:51 local time (01:41 to 01:51 Moscow time).
Officials noted that no prior ballistic missile launches from this specific region had been recorded before this incident.
Earlier, on March 12, North Korea was reported to have launched two cruise missiles from a submarine.
Yonhap reported that South Korea’s military stated North Korea launched an “unidentified” missile from a submarine over the weekend near the North Korean port city of Sinpo, according to the Joint Chiefs of Staff.
Separately, in a statement from the United States Indo-Pacific Command, North Korea’s ballistic missile activity was said to contribute to a destabilizing effect linked to Pyongyang’s military program.
