A 39-year-old woman from Alicante and a 49-year-old man from Murcia died on Monday while canyoning the Trevélez river in the Alpujarra region of Granada. Their bodies were recovered in the same environment where the incident occurred, and authorities indicated that the tragedy resulted from an accident during the activity, according to statements from the Armed Institute reported by Europa Press.

The first alert about the missing pair came through the regional emergency coordination service, 112 Andalusia. At 20:50 on Sunday evening, a relative of one of the individuals contact emergency services to report that they had left the Alpujarra area and had not returned, triggering a rescue response that would be extended across the night and into the following day.

In response, the Special Mountain Response Rescue Group GREIM of the Granada Civil Guard Command mobilized a search operation through the Trevélez valley, coordinating ground units with aerial support in an effort to locate the missing hikers. A helicopter joined the search as part of the multi-agency response, expanding the area under surveillance and increasing the chances of locating the individuals safely.

At approximately 10:05 a.m. on Monday, GREIM members located two bodies floating in a pool of water within the valley, specifically in a spot known locally as Marmita Trampa. The officers recovered the bodies and transported them to the Los Tablones-Órgiva helipad for subsequent procedures and official identification as part of the ongoing investigation into the incident.
