Two individuals who set out into the forest to gather blackberries on September 7 in the Northern Yenisei region were not placed on the list of those returning home. They were later located alive, a finding shared through the Telegram channel of the Krasnoyarsk Territory Ministry of Internal Affairs.
Authorities were alerted to their absence a day after local residents drove toward the village of Velmo in the Northern Yenisei region with the intention of picking strawberries and failed to come back as planned.
The wife of one of the berry pickers notified the police, and rescuers succeeded in pinpointing the car they were traveling in within the taiga. Six search groups combed the terrain, and aerial reconnaissance covered the vast area as well.
The missing men were discovered 15 kilometers from the spot where the vehicle was located. According to the rescuers, the duo had subsisted on a diet of nuts for nearly a week and their legs showed significant wear. They were able to contact their families via a satellite phone once they were found. It emerged that one of the men had become a father the day before, welcoming a daughter into the world.
Plans are in place to transport the two men to the nearest town in the coming days for medical checkups and rest after their ordeal.
Earlier reports from a forest area near Chelyabinsk noted the disappearance of two women under circumstances that prompted an immediate search and investigation. The case highlights the unpredictability of forest expeditions and the necessity of robust planning and communication in remote areas.
