Across the country, authorities report that 18 people have died in traffic incidents since the Holy Week operation began. The period tracked runs from 3:00 pm on Friday, April 8, to 8:00 pm on the concluding Sunday. This notice reflects the tallies provided by the General Directorate of Traffic (DGT) through official channels.

The days with the highest fatalities were Sunday, April 10, recording six deaths, and Tuesday, April 4, with a dozen lives lost across multiple incidents, according to DGT sources cited by Efe. These numbers underscore the ongoing risk on highways during peak travel periods and the importance of safety measures for all road users.

As of Sunday afternoon, a fatal collision occurred near 13:45 when a vehicle left the road along the A423 in Alcaracejos, Córdoba. The incident resulted in the death of a 70-year-old man and left another man of the same age seriously injured, with three minors also sustaining injuries. Emergency services attended the scene and carried out the necessary medical and rescue operations.

Observations from the DGT indicate that the Holy Week special operation will conclude on Monday, April 18, a public holiday in six autonomous communities: the Community of Valencia, Catalonia, the Balearic Islands, La Rioja, Navarra, and the Basque Country. Road safety teams emphasize that the reduction of risk hinges on prudent driving, adherence to speed limits, and the avoidance of distractions such as mobile devices while behind the wheel. Authorities urge travelers to plan routes, allow extra time for delays, and cooperate with police controls designed to maintain safe traffic flow during high-traffic days. (DGT)
