The judge at the Court of First Instance and the instruction number 2 in Cieza (Murcia) approved the transfer of the ex-partner of the woman who was found dead in a well in Cieza, sending him to temporary prison without bail. The detainee appeared before the judge earlier today. An investigation into murder and related violations of protective measures has been opened.

The woman had filed a report in 2019, after which the Cieza Gender Violence Court issued a protective order and imposed criminal penalties that included a ban on approaching and contacting her. In August 2022, the same person was accused of violating the injunction, triggering a second proceeding and the issuance of a search and arrest warrant when he failed to appear in court.

As previously reported, the Murcia Criminal Court is expected to deliver a verdict in May 2023, potentially sentencing the defendant to 10 months in prison for ill-treatment while maintaining the protection order and the preliminary ban on approaching until the final decision is issued.

The funeral of the missing woman from Cieza was held after investigators confirmed the body was found around 18:00 yesterday in a difficult-to-reach well within the town, near the highway, according to Civil Guard sources. The search operation was terminated after the discovery, following involvement by mountain specialists and the GEAS unit (Special Underwater Activities Group).

The victim, a 35-year-old woman of North African origin, had been missing since the previous Wednesday, when she did not return home after leaving to go shopping. Her brother had reported her missing the following Thursday, prompting a large-scale search operation that began at that time.

The next day, Civil Guard officers detained the woman’s former partner, who is also of North African origin. A restraining order had been issued against him for abuse, and according to the same sources, he allegedly sent the victim threatening messages via WhatsApp a few days earlier.

The deceased had been living in Cieza for a short period, according to local reports. Since the early hours of last Friday, efforts to locate her had continued unsuccessfully, with one of her siblings reporting the matter at that time.
