The recording shows him beside a microphone and in front of a judge. A man from HUNGRYanchorage in Ciudad Real testified under oath. He described a friendship that turned into business ties with Antonio Caba, a figure now imprisoned on murder charges. The case recalls a pair of killings that involved the elimination of two businessmen in 2019 and 2022.
Security forces recovered the bodies of Juan Miguel Isla and Jesús González Borrajo. They had disappeared into wells last spring and in June. In a courtroom statement, the witness told the judge that his friend, who is accused of both crimes, admitted, “He manipulated me. I was blind, and I defended him.” The witness added that his friend’s deception placed him in a difficult situation, an embolic trap of sorts. [Citation: CASO ABIERTO investigation]
This house will be for you
The waiter confirms that three days after Isla vanished on July 25, 2022, he agreed to participate in a scam to seize one of the victim’s properties. The contract involved was fake. Antonio Caba orchestrated the scheme and positioned the waiter as an accessory. The witness recalls being told that a box would belong to him, referring to the house inside the victim’s property.
According to the testimony, Caba, as per the Civil Guard investigation, killed Isla and disposed of the body in a well three days later. He then copied the victim’s signature on another contract to seal the supposed sale, long after the man had died. The waiter and Caba later visited a Daimiel bar and discussed the fraud, with the waiter saying he had signed everything and nothing was real. He kept the house and almost all related property after the legal owner left.
The witness explained that he and Caba continued living in the farm and the house without interruption, even as the affair unfolded before the court. He recalled episodes of intense cleaning around the crime scene and said that on another day, Caba took turpentine or a similar substance to spray the walls, allegedly to remove fleas and mosquitoes, a strange routine that raised more questions about what happened that day.
In later conversations, Caba talked about cleaning the crime scene and mentioned being in the countryside as he and the witness discussed the events. The overall impression was that Caba controlled the narrative and manipulated the situation to keep everything quiet for a long period.
The dirt is gone
Isla’s disappearance preceded the seizure of his farm by three days. Afterward, Caba and his friend discussed the incident, with the friend recalling that Isla’s disappearance did not seem to bother him at first. In other recordings compiled by CASO ABIERTO, Caba is heard speaking with another person who suggests that Isla might have visited with escorts at times.
From July through January 2023, Caba and the accomplice continued a normal life, remaining on the farm and the house. Before the judge, the waiter described the events where his friend killed Isla and disappeared from records. Caba visited frequently and showed an obsession with cleaning, including removing residues from windows and walls and discarding bottles, the waiter recalled, noting the strange habit of pouring a solvent over surfaces to eradicate marks of the crime.
According to the former friend, Caba repeatedly described cleaning the crime scene in similar terms: “Are you in the countryside? While my partner and I were there, he came with these products, cleaned them, and dumped them on the ground as if nothing mattered.”
Ana Rosa and Facebook
In January, CASO ABIERTO revealed that the Civil Guard linked Isla’s disappearance to the 2019 vanishing of Jesús González Borrajo, suggesting both cases involved the same suspect. In the witness statement, Garson recalls discussing the issue with Antonio Caba, referring to a program on a Telecinco show as “Ana Rosa.” Shortly afterward, the Civil Guard found the second missing man’s car abandoned in Albacete, and the witness recalled notifying Caba after learning about the discovery via Facebook.
Investigations later advanced. The Civil Guard placed a microphone in the suspect’s car and listened to his conversations. Soon after, Antonio Caba and retiree Gaspar Rivera were arrested for the crimes. In March, Isla’s body was recovered from a well, and in June the body of the second missing person was found. The waiter testified that he never believed his friend could be a murderer, admitting he had been manipulated and blindsided by a dangerous man. “I lived it on an altar, if I defended him, I was endangering myself,” he admitted.
Don Antonio
The witness remembered Caba as someone who received respect from local Civil Guard members because of his connections. The tale even included a sense of familiarity and status that some people then found unsettling. An anecdote described a social gathering where Caba enjoyed a luxury meal with friends, underscoring a character capable of appearing affable while orchestrating dangerous schemes.
According to the testimony, Antonio Caba remains imprisoned on two murder charges and has not testified for the Civil Guard or the judge. Gaspar Rivera, a retiree who acknowledged helping to dispose of Isla’s body, remains in custody. Autopsy results and a review of the long-barreled Astra 9 gun used in the case continue to shape the investigation and the prosecution’s arguments. [Citation: CASO ABIERTO investigation]
