The countdown to Telecinco’s new phase of The Weakest Competitor is nearing its premiere. The Mediaset network announced that eight well-known participants will attend the launch, with Luján Argüelles hosting the event.
Rafa Sánchez, Alaska, Ainhoa Arteta, Dioni of Camela, Leticia Sabater, Natalia Rodríguez, Jorge González, and María Peláe — the last two finalists from Benidorm Fest 2024 — join a lineup of celebrated figures who will star in the opening episode of Telecinco’s Spanish adaptation of the beloved British original format.
Renowned politicians, singers, actors, comedians, athletes, and national journalists will step into a high-stakes arena, testing friendship, strategy, and nerve in one of television’s most iconic competitions. Televisión presents this refreshed version on Telecinco with Luján Argüelles as host, airing next Wednesday, September 4, at 22:50.
For the first time in Spain, the show introduces celebrity contestants who share the same professional background in each edition. This adaptation of the English format is produced by Mediaset España in collaboration with Brutal Media, the team behind popular programs like El Paísano and Bienvenidos a Eden.
The core challenge requires contestants to collaborate from their individual perspectives to grow the jackpot while navigating a demanding sequence of questions. They will display knowledge, mental agility, and tactical judgment as they form and adjust strategies, all while aiming to eliminate the weakest teammates until the final stage, where two finalists duel for the top prize.
How The Weakest Opponent works
Each episode contributes up to 50,000 euros to a charitable cause as eight celebrities unite to raise the overall jackpot. Victory demands not only smarts but also composure and calculated risk as players face a string of pivotal decisions and tricky problems along the journey.
Across seven rounds, participants collaborate to answer as many questions as possible within the allotted time. To advance, they must answer eight questions in a row correctly. If any contestant falters, the accumulated money is forfeited and the round restarts, heightening tension and forcing rapid recalibration of plans.
The Banking option adds a strategic layer by letting players secure the money saved so far before a question is asked. When used, the saved amount stays in the pot while the current round’s points reset to zero, demanding careful timing and risk assessment.
Only one contestant ultimately wins. After each round, players vote for who they believe is the weakest opponent. The person chosen exits the game as the host delivers the iconic line indicating the end of that player’s run.
As rounds progress, contestants exit one by one until two finalists remain. The final face-to-face showdown determines the winner and seals the accumulated jackpot, marking a dramatic arc of teamwork, strategy, and nerve.
This edition signals a new era for the series, bringing celebrity participants into a shared competitive arena and highlighting how teamwork, quick thinking, and careful risk assessment shape success in a format with a storied entertainment legacy.
