Overview of a violent theft incident in Alicante center and the subsequent arrest
An 88-year-old woman was injured during a struggle over her purse in the heart of Alicante, according to the Alicante Police Station. A man has been detained as the alleged author of the violent theft, authorities stated.
Official statements indicate that a National Police agent in central Alicante arrested a man right after he carried out a violent robbery against an elderly woman aged 88.
The Central District Police unit in Alicante was on duty near Plaza de la Montañeta on the morning of the 25th when they heard several pedestrians shout, “Get him, the thief!” and saw people chasing after a suspect. The pursuit commenced while the officer identified herself and ordered, “Stop, Police!” During the chase, the suspect discarded some cash and a wallet without stopping to flee further.
Eventually, the officer managed to catch the suspect and bring him down, ensuring he could not continue his escape while she gathered more detailed initial observations from the scene.
Witnesses indicated where the victim lay. She was an elderly woman who was conscious but sustained a head contusion with significant bleeding from a head wound.
Testimonies corroborated the sequence: the perpetrator approached the victim, attempted to snatch her purse, and a violent struggle ensued. The man knocked the woman to the pavement, causing the head injury, and then fled with the loot.
After reviewing the circumstances, the officer proceeded with the arrest for robbery with violence. The suspect was transported to the Alicante Central District Police Station for processing.
The suspect, a male of Algerian nationality aged 18, was placed in the custody of the Alicante Magistrates Court the day after the events.
