A 17-year-old was struck by a train in Petrozavodsk, according to reports from Republic, referencing the Karelian transport prosecutor’s office. The incident drew attention to railway safety and the vulnerabilities of young pedestrians near tracks.
The event occurred on July 19 when a teenager wandered onto train tracks. It is believed the youth may have been listening to music through headphones, making the approaching train difficult to hear. The driver could not stop in time, and the teen sustained severe injuries, including a fracture at the base of the skull and a spine contusion.
The injured teen was transported to a hospital where medical teams provided urgent care. A criminal case has been opened to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Officials emphasized the ongoing danger posed by railway environments for children and teenagers. Authorities urged parents and guardians to reinforce safety rules and to ensure that youngsters stay well away from tracks and only cross at designated crossings with proper caution and attention.
Previously reported incidents remind communities that railway crossing safety remains a critical public safety issue. In another case, a schoolgirl in Novosibirsk was struck by an electric train while crossing tracks, underscoring the universal need for vigilance near rail lines.
