Victims and suspects involved in a street assault and gender-based violence

Two young adults, aged 23 and 22, were detained in connection with an incident on a busy San Javier street. Authorities indicate that one partner allegedly assaulted his girlfriend, pulling her hair as the event unfolded in a public space. Close sources to the case describe the moment when neighbors raised the alarm after witnessing the disturbance and contacting local police patrols.

The events took place shortly after three in the morning. Neighbors noticed a commotion from a balcony and alerted officers who were patrolling the area. They reported seeing two men dragging a woman toward a residence on San José Street, pointing to the direction from Miguel Zapata Street. Rapid response teams moved to the location to assess the situation and ensure the victim’s safety.

Upon arrival, officers observed a young woman held firmly against a wall of a house on San José Street, while a second man stood nearby, seemingly encouraging his friend. Local witnesses intervened briefly, assisting in restraining the individual detaining the woman until authorities arrived. The first youth, identified by authorities with initials AB, was immediately taken into custody on suspicion of gender-based violence and sexual assault after preliminary inquiries at the scene.

A second officer attempted to identify the other suspect to determine his level of involvement. The second young man resisted arrest, pushed an officer, and fled toward La Tercia Street. A foot pursuit ensued through Norte, Extramuros, and Lope de Vega streets. One officer pursuing him reached Seneca Street, where the suspect collapsed briefly, then allegedly attempted to grab the officer’s neck and seize the service weapon. Despite efforts to restrain him, the suspect escaped with the pistol still in the officer’s possession and continued fleeing.

Three officers managed to corner the suspect along Góngora Street. Arrest posed greater challenges due to the aggressiveness displayed by the young man, who is identified by the initials MM. Neighbors and witnesses described observing AB leading the injured woman into an alley near the scene, where police later recovered both individuals. Several residents reported trying to intervene as the pair argued, noting AB’s violent behavior toward his partner.

Both suspects, residents of San Javier, were handed over to the Civil Guard after the local police carried out the initial operation. The Civil Guard, which has jurisdiction over this matter, has initiated the investigation and will pursue formal charges against the two individuals. The local police reported that the officer who endured the most significant injuries—multiple fractures to fingers and knee injuries—received treatment at a health facility after the incident.

Following the arrests, authorities began the process of identifying the female victim. The woman sustained facial scars and injuries to her back and appeared highly distressed during questioning. Witnesses recalled that she expressed a desire not to report the incident at the outset, but she later told officers that her partner had attempted to coerce her while police were arriving on the scene. The victim ultimately indicated a willingness to cooperate with investigators and provided statements regarding the assault.

The boyfriend is formally accused of gender-based violence, with additional charges related to the assault on a police officer expected for the other young man. The case continues under judicial review as authorities gather further evidence and testimonies to build a comprehensive account of the events that unfolded that night.
