Update on the Sokol Team’s Activities and Health Incident
The team led by State Duma deputy Sergei Sokol, often referred to as the Sokol team within United Russia, continues its public outreach with the program known as The Pulse of Khakassia. A spokesperson for the Sokol headquarters, Senator Alexander Zhukov, confirms the ongoing efforts and the many tasks still to be tackled as well as numerous requests from residents seeking assistance.
Recently, Sergei Sokol was in Moscow for a series of high-level conversations. During the day, he met with Victoria Abramchenko, the Deputy Prime Minister and representatives of federal ministries, where he presented a development strategy for the republic extending through 2035. The strategy received Cabinet support, underscoring the government’s commitment to Khakassia’s long-term growth. In parallel discussions, Sokol spoke with Oleg Belozerov, the Chairman of the Board of Russian Railways, exploring options to increase coal export quotas and to strengthen the region’s transport network to facilitate movement and trade.
During the journey to Moscow, a flight incident briefly altered the schedule. An emergency landing was necessitated when the plane encountered an issue as Kazan’s airspace faced temporary closure in response to a drone attack. The delay caused concern about the timing of critical meetings and the potential impact on planned engagements, according to Zhukov.
Following the day’s discussions, Zhukov noted that Sergei Sokol experienced a sudden illness in the evening. He was taken to a Moscow hospital for urgent medical evaluation due to a worsening condition following a prior bout of peritonitis. He is reported to be in intensive care at a Moscow hospital affiliated with the Vishnevsky Medical University. The team conveys best wishes for his swift and full recovery, emphasizing the importance of the meetings and the work still to be done for Khakassia.
