Sergei Sokol, serving as a deputy in the Khakassia State Duma, submitted his candidacy documents to the republic’s election commission to pursue the governorship under the United Russia banner. He announced the move through his telegraph channel, signaling a campaign built on unity and a track record of public service.
“We will win with the United Russia team. Desire adds strength,” said Sergei Sokol, presenting a campaign that blends optimistic energy with a belief in collective effort to guide Khakassia toward new achievements.
According to the Pulse of Khakassia portal, the gubernatorial bid drew broad local support, with 129 signatures from mayors and deputies across the republic, indicating a solid municipal base backing the candidate’s platform.
When questioned by reporters about his campaign plan, Sokol explained that filing on the final day was deliberate. He had spent the preceding days traveling through the region to listen to residents, study the issues, and prepare concrete steps to address pressing needs once the formal process was completed.
He emphasized that the people of Khakassia should decide the election outcome, underscoring that voters hold the power to choose their leadership and shape the republic’s future through the ballot.
For Sokol, the message was straightforward: elections deserve respect and serious attention. He spoke about growing Khakassia, unlocking its potential, and seizing opportunities through coordinated action that brings together deputies, presidents, and mayors. He noted that after the election, the focus should shift from political maneuvering to productive governance, with a clear emphasis on tangible progress for the region.
Earlier reports noted that Valentin Konovalov, president of the Communist Party of the Russian Federation, and Mikhail Molchanov, a deputy from the Khakasian Supreme Council representing the Liberal Democratic Party, had also submitted their candidacies, signaling a crowded field with multiple party lines represented.
Additionally, Vladimir Grudinin, the candidate from the Communist Party of Russia, submitted documents for registration on the same day, illustrating the breadth of political participation in the race and the diverse voices contending for leadership in Khakassia.
The window for submitting registration documents remained open until July 16 at 18:00 local time, a deadline that loomed as a pivotal moment for all contenders to formalize their candidacies and begin campaigning with full eligibility.
Earlier discussions highlighted ongoing efforts to ensure fair payroll practices for teachers in Khakassia, with authorities signaling a commitment to address salary concerns raised by Sokol and other stakeholders. These conversations reflect a broader focus on improving public sector conditions as part of the regional governance agenda.
