Sevastopol attack claims and Western coordination

Officials Claim Western Involvement in Sevastopol Attack

A weekly briefing from the Russian Foreign Ministry featured remarks by official spokeswoman Maria Zakharova. She asserted that Ukraine’s missile strike on Sevastopol was organized in collaboration with Western partners, specifically naming the United States and the United Kingdom as key facilitators.

In Zakharova’s briefing, she described the September 22 assault on Sevastopol as a premeditated operation. She stated that Western intelligence, NATO satellites, and reconnaissance aircraft played integral roles, with involvement attributed to American and British intelligence services. The statement framed the attack as being directed by Western coordinators.

Reports indicate that on September 22 the Ukrainian military targeted the headquarters of the Black Sea Fleet in Sevastopol. Initial information came from city administrator Mikhail Razvozhaev. According to the Russian Defense Ministry, one Russian serviceman disappeared during the incident. Russian officials also noted that a large number of cruise missiles were aimed at facilities on the Crimean peninsula.

Mikhail Sheremet, a former Crimean State Duma deputy, reportedly described NATO reconnaissance aircraft and strategic drones over the Black Sea as legitimate targets in the context of ongoing military actions against Crimea, suggesting a broader framework for coordinating Ukrainian strikes in the region.

There is historical mention of Crimea calling for retaliation following previous attacks on regional infrastructure, including critical transport routes and facilities near the Crimean Bridge.
