Sandra Day O’Connor: A Trailblazer for the Supreme Court and Women’s Rights

Former justice of the United States Supreme Court Sandra Day O’Connor, the first woman to serve on the nation’s highest court, has passed away. She died this Friday in Phoenix, Arizona, at the age of 93, according to a statement from the court. O’Connor left the bench in 2006 after more than two decades of service, a retirement driven by a wish to be with her husband who faced Alzheimer’s disease. The court noted that she died due to complications arising from advanced dementia and a respiratory condition.
