A severe head-on collision on a highway left one person dead and two others seriously injured after a vehicle travelled in the opposite direction. The crash occurred just before 11:30 p.m. on Friday under clear conditions, according to the Provincial Consortium, with firefighters and Civil Guard traffic officers responding to the scene.
The incident happened between kilometers 625 and 626 on the highway when one car diverted into oncoming traffic for reasons still under police investigation. Investigators are examining whether the cause involved driver error, impairment, or other factors, as two cars collided directly in the opposite lane. The driver of one vehicle died at the scene, while the other driver and a companion sustained serious injuries.
A large deployment of Traffic Civil Guards arrived to manage the area. Traffic was temporarily restricted in one lane to secure the site and protect responding crews, as damaged vehicles blocked part of the roadway. One of the involved vehicles is a Tesla, and as emergency work began, teams faced the challenge of a high voltage battery. Firefighters worked to mitigate this risk and eventually freed the two occupants who were in serious condition.
Another firefighting unit assisted in the operation to stabilize the scene and secure the deceased occupant of the other vehicle. Two ambulances from the Emergency Medical Care Service and a Basic Life Support unit were dispatched to aid victims. While rescuers worked to free occupants trapped in the wreckage, Traffic Security Officers organized a safety perimeter to manage the heightened traffic flow around the incident site.
The disaster response included a command unit, a heavy urban pump, two rescue vehicles, a sergeant, two corporals, and eight firefighters stationed in Denia, Benidorm, and Benissa who coordinated the response and ensured swift access for emergency teams.
Hours later in the same municipality, another fatal crash occurred on the N-332 near Benissa around 7:40 a.m. A collision between a motorcycle and a pickup truck in a head-on configuration resulted in the death of the 31-year-old motorcycle rider. The incident was recorded at kilometer 172.9 under conditions not specified publicly, prompting authorities to secure the area and commence the standard post-accident procedures.
