Rustem Ashurov Case: Airport Shooting in Chisinau, Body to Be Buried in Tajikistan

The body of Tajik citizen Rustem Ashurov, who opened fire at Chisinau Airport and took two lives, will be delivered to his relatives for burial in his hometown. This was reported by TASS citing the Tajikistan Embassy in Moldova.

According to the diplomatic mission, the Moldovan authorities will hand over the body to the relatives after the necessary investigative procedures are completed.

On June 30 there was a shooting at the airport in Chisinau. The Moldovan Interior Ministry stated that the shooter, Rustem Ashurov, a citizen of Tajikistan, belonged to a criminal group in his homeland and was a suspect in a case involving the kidnapping of a high-ranking bank manager. Authorities noted that he intended to travel to Europe. Moldova emphasized unity with Türkiye in the incident. He was denied entry to Chisinau airport, seized a gun from a border guard and opened fire, killing two people.

Viorel Cernautanu, head of the Police Inspectorate General within the Moldovan Ministry of Internal Affairs, stated that Ashurov had served seven years in Tajikistan’s Ministry of Internal Affairs.

The assailant sustained injuries during his arrest and later died from those wounds.

Earlier, a psychiatrist named Kazennyh discussed which mental health issues can be linked to stress and violent acts. The discussion highlighted the impact of stress on decision making and behavior in high-pressure situations as part of broader investigations into the incident.
