The development of domestic automobile tourism is a key topic for Rosneft, which sees a modern gas-station network as more than just fuel sales. It aims to offer a broad range of related services and conveniences. Dmitry Shishonkov, the General Director of JSC RN-Moscow, which operates under Rosneft, spoke on this during Intourmarket-2023, an international tourism exhibition.

During a roundtable titled “Prospects for autotourism. What do travelers need on the road,” Shishonkov emphasized that the most crucial factor for a car journey is the reliable provision of high-quality fuel at regional gas stations along drivers’ routes.

According to him, today a gas station functions as a multifunctional filling complex offering related products, a variety of services, and a high standard of hospitality.

For car enthusiasts, he noted, the ability to relax and refresh during a break is essential. This includes facilities such as showers and overnight options, which significantly improve the travel experience.

He argued that such offerings not only enhance comfort for travelers but also spur autotourism growth in the communities where these stations operate.

Shishonkov also outlined Rosneft’s integrated approach under the new gas station format branded as Zerno. The plan anticipates expanding this format to more than 1,000 stations over the next three years.

He pointed out that modern travelers seek more than cozy cafes and rest zones; they expect innovative services as well. Roadside pharmacies, financial convenience stores, and mobile food options are among the features being considered. He also highlighted the importance of a robust mobile app to connect travelers with services seamlessly.

The head of RN-Moscow suggested that this infrastructure expansion makes autotourism more convenient and attractive, contributing to rising popularity and shifting patterns in automobile travel.

At the same time, he stressed that as automobile tourism grows, the environmental responsibilities of oil companies rise as well. There is a push toward ensuring that gas stations and their products meet higher environmental standards. A key element of this environmental contribution is the rollout of a network of charging stations for electric vehicles.

Industry observers note that Rosneft’s strategy aligns with broader regional trends toward sustainable mobility, integrating energy solutions with travel infrastructure to support long-distance journeys across Russia and neighboring markets. The initiative reflects a belief that high-quality fuel, convenient services, and eco-friendly options together create a compelling value proposition for travelers and local economies alike. In tandem with these developments, the enterprise continues to share best practices with other national networks and to monitor evolving consumer expectations to refine its service mix. This approach, supported by market analyses and user feedback, positions Rosneft as a catalyst for modern autotourism in North America and beyond, while keeping pace with global shifts toward greener transportation options.
