Since last January, the Cabinet has approved a bonus for young renters. This subsidy targets young people facing housing costs and seeks to ease monthly payments. Many questions have emerged about who can qualify, how the subsidy impacts rent accounting, when to request the aid, and what the latest Royal Decree in the Official State Gazette (BOE) adds to the rules. The decree clarifies that 2022 beneficiaries must demonstrate the subsidy has been used appropriately before the issuing administration.

Rental bonus: effective January 1 for people aged 18 to 35

Young adults aged 18 to 35 are eligible for a monthly rental allowance of 250 euros. Clause 16 of the decree requires recipients to prove, by any legally accepted means, that rent has been paid for each month for which the subsidy was received. The justification for the rental bonus must be provided at least every six months and within a maximum of three months after the end of the last calendar month in which the subsidy was received. This ensures proper use of the funds and transparency in how the aid is applied to housing costs.

How to obtain support for youth rental aid

With the necessary documentation, the investment in renting a home will be credited to the beneficiary. The autonomous community that administers the aid will certify that the subsidy serves its intended purpose before the Ministry of Transport, Mobility and Urban Agenda (Mitma), ensuring alignment with national housing objectives and oversight standards.

How to apply for the youth rental bonus in the Community of Valencia

In practical terms, the Ministry of Transport transfers the funds to each autonomous community after a Sectoral Conference decision. The ministry expects to complete this process within two months, following the statement made at a press conference. The cabinet announcement reaffirmed the timeline and the commitment to timely distribution of the allocations to regions.

Twenty thousand young people from Alicante will benefit from the new rental bonus

The 2022 General Government Budgets set aside an initial 200 million euros for the youth rental bonus, with an additional 200 million euros anticipated for the following year. Regions can decide whether to adjust the income limits indicated in the decree to reflect local housing market conditions. The decree specifies limits on rental charges, with maximum monthly rents proposed at 900 euros for apartments and 450 euros for rented rooms, subject to regional adjustments based on housing market tightness. This framework aims to widen access to rental housing while maintaining a sustainable allocation of public resources.
