Since last January, the Cabinet has approved an additional hire for young people. Many doubts have surfaced about this subsidy, which aims to help young individuals cope with housing costs. Questions about eligibility for a rental bonus for youths, its impact on rental records and income statements, when to request support, and the specifics of the Royal Decree published in the Official State Gazette (BOE) this week have shed new light on the issue. The decree clarifies that beneficiaries of the 2022 youth rental voucher must justify its use before the issuing administration.
Rental bonus: effective January 1 for young people aged 18 to 35
Young people aged 18 to 35 can access a rental assistance of 250 euros. As stated in clause 16 of the decree, applicants must prove by any legally permitted means the payment of rent or the transfer of the value of all monthly installments for which the subsidy was received. The justification for the rental bonus must be provided at least every six months and within a maximum of three months from the end of the last calendar month in which the subsidy was received.
How to obtain the youth rental bonus
The evidence proves that the subsidy has been used for housing costs. The autonomous community delivering the aid is responsible for certifying the subsidy’s alignment with its purpose before the Ministry of Transport, Mobility and Urban Agenda. This step ensures the subsidy serves its intended housing goals before the national authority.
How to apply for the youth rental bonus in the Community of Valencia
In practice, the Ministry of Transport transfers funds to each autonomous community after the Sectoral Conference approves the distribution. The ministry expects to complete this process within two months, following a decision that was discussed in a recent briefing. The information was presented in a press conference with an official in attendance.
Twenty thousand youths from Alicante will benefit from the new rent support
For the youth rental bonus, the General Government Budgets foresee an initial allocation of 200 million euros for 2022, with an additional 200 million euros anticipated for the following year. Autonomous communities have the option to adjust the income limits under the decree, depending on local housing market conditions. The decree sets practical rent limits, with the potential for adjustments to 900 euros for apartments and 450 euros for rented rooms in certain regions.
