Medical professionals at a regional hospital in Russia performed surgery on a 32-year-old man who endured significant pain after attempting to alter his penis size through self-directed injections. The update comes from the regional health ministry on the official press channel.
The patient reported persistent swelling, sharp discomfort, and the appearance of firm nodules along the shaft. Investigators learned that four years earlier he had injected a cosmetic substance under the skin of the penis to enlarge its size. Over time, these injections triggered inflammation and an adverse tissue reaction. According to the hospital urologist who treated him, the foreign material had spread beyond its original location, moving between the penile membranes and the skin. This dispersion caused expansion of the organ in some areas, but it also initiated a process of tissue breakdown and infection.
According to the physician, the injected material created channels for leakage, leading to a buildup of inflammatory byproducts in the local area. The accumulation of cellular debris and impurities in blood and lymph contributed to fluid collection and the growth of granulation tissue around the affected site. Such self-administered procedures frequently result in painful inflammation of the male external genitalia and can escalate to more serious complications if left untreated.
The medical team stressed that without timely treatment, the patient risked developing non-healing ulcers and cysts, which could become inflamed and further compromise function. In this case, the patient required two separate operations to remove the diseased tissue, reconstruct the organ, and restore its reproductive function. The surgical teams were able to rebuild the affected structures and reestablish normal anatomy, enabling the patient to regain as much normal function as possible.
The incident also involved criminal consequences for the individual who conducted the illicit procedure. He was previously arrested and sentenced to a multi-year term in prison for performing illegal cosmetic surgery. The case underscores the hazards associated with unregulated procedures and the potential for lasting damage when surgical interventions are attempted outside professional medical settings. Experts reiterate that any concerns about genital size should be discussed with qualified clinicians who can provide safe, evidence-based options and comprehensive aftercare rather than resorting to risky, self-administered methods.
