Applicants will have another chance to retake the Unified State Exam in at least one subject before the admission period closes. The information from TASS indicates that the Ministry of Education and Science has tasked Russian universities with creating the necessary conditions for this option to be available.

“Securing the legal rights of applicants remains the top priority,” the ministry stressed in its statement.

In his address to the Federal Assembly, President Vladimir Putin outlined that graduates should be granted the opportunity to retake the Unified State Exam in one subject before the end of the admission campaign. The Russian Ministry of Education and Science, in collaboration with the Ministry of Education, Rosobrnadzor, and other federal agencies, will oversee the practical rollout of this directive.

Earlier, Olga Kazakova, chair of the State Duma Education Committee, noted that a new mechanism for retaking the Unified State Exam must be prepared during 2024. She described the creation of a dedicated commission as a prerequisite for organizing this process.

Educators welcomed Putin’s proposal to allow graduates a second attempt at the Unified State Exam and emphasized the potential benefits for students seeking to improve their results or address gaps in a single subject before finalizing their applications.
