Elche residents who recycle cans and plastic drink bottles using yellow containers or RECICLOS machines have enjoyed generous rewards since March.
To involve every citizen and encourage ongoing recycling, Ecoembes, in partnership with the Elche City Council and the Granada Mollar de Elche PDO, organized a recycling day for Saturday, November 18. The event features environmental education workshops, mixology activities, and tastings of Mollar pomegranate juice. The gathering will take place in Glorieta from 11:00 to 14:00.
Any person who registers for the free RECICLOS app can participate in this wonderful recycling festival, where both adults and children can learn the practical advantages of recycling beyond its environmental benefits. The day is packed with rewarding opportunities.
The initiative was announced at a press conference held in Plaza Baix and attended by Juan de Dios Navarro, Elche’s Councilor for Corporate Affairs, Environment, Palmeral, Agriculture and Water, along with Francisco Oliva, president of the Granada Mollar PDO. In his remarks, the councilor highlighted the value of such initiatives for promoting citizen participation in recycling and protecting the environment. He noted that downloading the RECICLOS app not only yields sustainable rewards but also allows users to donate RECICLOS points to local environmental projects in Elche. He encouraged all residents to join the major recycling party in Glorieta on Saturday.
Meanwhile, the DOP president expressed gratitude to Ecoembes and the City Council for selecting Elche’s Mollar pomegranate as the focal point of the campaign, acknowledging the fruit as a national and international symbol of the city.
Mollar pomegranate from Elche, among the best in the world
RECICLOS aims to enrich this festive moment by celebrating the Mollar pomegranate season in Elche. Neighbors and visitors can sample the unique fruit, which carries the Protected Designation of Origin status. It remains one of the city’s top tourist attractions and a point of pride for its extensive international recognition.
This distinction is the result of the DOP’s ongoing efforts to promote the fruit’s exceptional quality, making it stand out as the queen of pomegranates.
A city united in support of recycling
Although the main Ecoembes recycling festival takes place on November 18, environmental outreach will continue across town through December 15, with visits aimed at bringing RECICLOS closer to all residents of Elche.
The campaign will also reach schools and institutes, where a series of talks will be offered to students. Through these educational visits, students will learn firsthand the benefits of packaging recycling and the rewards and donations tied to RECICLOS registration.
How RECYCLING works
To participate, residents simply download the free RECYCLING app and scan the barcode on the can or plastic bottle they intend to recycle before disposing of it. When outside, they should place the packaging in the yellow container and scan the container’s QR code after dropping in the bagged items.
RECICLOS machines provide another straightforward option: users insert all cans and plastic bottles into the machine and scan the on-screen QR code. This action awards RECYCLING points that can be redeemed for a range of rewards.
