Putin Announces Change in Policy on Injured Soldiers and Service Roles

The Russian Ministry of Defense has proposed adjusting the rule that currently prevents injured service members from continuing to serve. President Vladimir Putin announced this change during a public meeting with residents of Anadyr, a moment that was broadcast and later summarized by the Kremlin press service.

“We will change this now,” Putin asserted during the remarks.

He stressed his support for the ministry’s proposal, indicating a shift in how the armed forces manage wounded personnel.

The president indicated that an injured soldier could still contribute by serving at the military commissariat or performing a comparable duty within the system.

During the same meeting, it was noted that Russia had fulfilled the needs of its special military operation in Ukraine. Delays in salary payments to military personnel, the briefing suggested, stemmed from bureaucratic inefficiencies rather than a lack of funds or planning.

Putin also remarked that past complaints about the difficulty of obtaining leave for those injured in the Northern Military District had spurred improvements in the process.

There was a note that previously Putin had met with the families of servicemen who had died in the Northern Military District at Novo-Ogaryovo on Christmas Eve, emphasizing ongoing attention to personnel matters and the human side of military service. [Attribution: Kremlin press service]
