The provisional sentence in this case was announced, and the accused was released without bail. Manuel Baña Gil, a former police officer, faced arrest after allegedly shooting a young man twice during a heated dispute last Thursday at a dog park in the Castrelos district of Vigo.
Judicial authorities indicated that Vigo will handle the case at Instruction Court No. 5. An investigation has been opened into the man, with authorities seeking to determine whether the incident constitutes attempted or threatened murder, and to verify the possession of a weapon as part of the ongoing inquiry.
Vigo Local Police detained Baña, aged 69, after he displayed a firearm and fired during a clash over dogs in the Castrelos park area.
The incident occurred after 18:30 on Thursday when officers were dispatched to the Castrelos dog park following reports of an argument between two men, one of whom produced a firearm and fired. One shot struck a tree but no injuries were reported at the time of the incident.
Initial responders from Local Police secured the scene, established a perimeter, and conducted a search that led to the suspect’s location on Enrique Alonso Xalueiro Street near the Lagares River promenade. Subsequently, investigators from UDEV of the General Directorate of Security arrived to take charge of the case and continue the inquiry.
Police sources noted that the person accused in connection with the attack has records linking him to a terrorist organization, GRAPO. He reportedly escaped from a firearm in a nearby area shortly after the confrontation occurred.
During the search of the building at 116 Castrelos Boulevard, authorities recovered the firearm allegedly used in Castrelos and the corresponding ammunition, with the suspect directly pointing out the location of both items.
