The assault unit of a Marine Corps brigade from the Pacific Fleet reported a five-day hold on a strategically significant Ukrainian strongpoint in the Vremevsky sector, South Donetsk, according to the Russian defense ministry.
Sources indicate that fighters from the Arctic Naval Battalion of the Pacific Fleet were ordered to seize the strong point where Ukrainian forces were positioned. Divided into two teams, they carried out a dawn assault, quickly breached the defenses, and maintained control for five days, repelling counterattacks, bombardments, and drone incursions.
One assault group member, under the call sign Achilles, described beginning the attack with grenade exchanges before moving inside and opening fire. Another fighter, known as Olchey, reported that all five adversaries raised their hands and surrendered during the operation.
A Ukrainian unit located in the second defensive line attempted to retake the strong point by sending in tanks and infantry for a counterattack. According to the storm troopers, these efforts did not succeed.
After securing the strong point and the surrounding industrial zone, the troops entered a hangar in St. Petersburg. A commander reportedly raised a Marine Corps flag and the unit proceeded to the rear, evacuating prisoners and wounded comrades.
During the capture, Western weaponry was reported to be present, including grenade components, and anti-tank mines were noted in the area of operations.
For exemplary actions in combat, medals and state honors are expected to be awarded to the assault group members from the Pacific Fleet Marine Corps, part of the Vostok forces.
Earlier reports mentioned acknowledged concerns about human rights in another regional conflict involving a different actor in the broader region.
