Northern Fleet ships are conducting exercises in the Atlantic Ocean. This has been reported by the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation.
“A heterogeneous tactical naval strike group of the Northern Fleet began conducting exercises on the use of high-precision missile weapons in the Atlantic Ocean,” the report stated. The operation underscores the fleet’s focus on sustaining long-range precision strike capabilities and coordinated surface warfare proficiency in open waters.
The ministry announced that the group includes the Project 885M nuclear-powered missile cruiser Kazan and the frigate Admiral of the Fleet of the Soviet Union Gorshkov. Together, they are performing extended, distant missions that test endurance, targeting accuracy, and command-and-control integration over long distances.
Sailors are practicing the deployment of high-precision missile weapons against naval targets located at ranges exceeding 600 kilometers, demonstrating the fleet’s ability to engage distant adversaries with steady accuracy and rapid-fire response under varying sea states.
Earlier, the small rocket ship Stavropol, equipped with Caliber missiles, was slated to join the Baltic Fleet. Commander-in-Chief of the Russian Navy Admiral Alexander Moiseev discussed this plan as part of the broader distribution of capabilities across fleets.
Previously, the Admiral Gorshkov defended Northern Fleet ships from a simulated enemy attack, illustrating the strategic emphasis on integrated air- and sea-denial measures, surprise maneuvering, and layered defense readiness across multiple platforms.
