New workplace for 250 employees
In September, JYSK celebrated a notable milestone by reaching 150 stores across Spain and Portugal. The company has set an ambitious target to open more than 30 new locations this year while rejuvenating almost 20 existing stores to align with the new concept. This bold expansion reflects a strategic push to deepen its footprint in the Iberian market and better serve customers across both countries.
To back this growth, JYSK completed the acquisition of a 274,000 square meter plot of land in Almenara, located south of Castellón, from the Bertolin family, a respected Spanish business group. The site will host a cutting-edge logistics center designed to optimize both store supply and direct-to-consumer deliveries throughout Spain and Portugal, reinforcing the company
‘s omnichannel capabilities and speed to market for Nordic-inspired products.
Ole Thomsen, Vice President of Logistics at JYSK, explained that the new distribution facility in Almenara represents the next step in strengthening the organization
‘s logistics framework. He noted that a distribution center in Hungary was opened in November of the previous year and another is under planning in the Netherlands. He emphasized that ongoing growth requires expanding logistics capacity to sustain a high level of service for customers seeking JYSK0A’s popular Nordic ranges, including home textiles, furniture, and decor.

The Almenara distribution center will mirror the design concept currently planned for the Netherlands, incorporating dual distribution hubs, high-rise storage facilities, multiple loading docks, and efficient truck unloading zones. The vertical warehouses are projected to hold around 150,000 pallets, ensuring ample space to store seasonal lines and fast-moving items. Solar panels will be installed on the roof to generate renewable energy for operations, aligning with broader sustainability goals across the group.
The property is also set to house the offices that will serve as the Spain and Portugal headquarters for JYSK. Overall, the combined distribution center and regional headquarters are expected to become a major employment hub, offering work for about 250 people. Presently, JYSK employs roughly 1,400 people across Spain and Portugal and operates 128 stores in Spain along with 25 stores in Portugal, underscoring the brand
‘s growing regional presence and commitment to local markets.
The project is slated for completion in 2027 to 2028. Until that time, the existing distribution center and headquarters located in Cheste, near Valencia, will continue to operate as usual, ensuring uninterrupted service to the existing store network and customers. This phased approach aims to balance immediate operational needs with long-term efficiency gains as the new center comes online—supporting faster replenishment and stronger regional distribution for both Spain and Portugal.
