JYSK is a recognized chain of stores focused on leisure, furniture, and home decor. It continues its steady expansion by opening its 150th store on the Iberian Peninsula, marking a significant milestone in its growth trajectory.

This achievement underscores the company’s ongoing strategy to bring Scandinavian design closer to customers while offering quality products at highly competitive prices. The expansion is part of a broader plan that aims to increase accessibility to JYSK’s range across Spain and Portugal, reinforcing the brand’s commitment to convenient shopping experiences for households across the region.

Looking ahead to the next financial year, JYSK outlines plans for more than 30 new openings and nearly 20 store renovations. The Iberian Peninsula concept shift anticipates creating about 350 new jobs and an investment nearing 16 million euros, underscoring the region’s importance in the company’s long-term plan.

“Closeness to customers, understanding their needs, and ensuring satisfaction are the core values guiding every action at JYSK. Reaching 150 stores in Spain and Portugal is a testament to the trust customers place in the brand, and it motivates us to keep growing and improving each year,” states Carlos Haba, General Manager of JYSK Spain and Portugal.

In the last financial year, ending in August 2023, JYSK teams opened 26 stores in Spain and four in Portugal, alongside 22 renovations. These moves positioned JYSK as a leader in retail expansion and set the stage for continued growth across the Iberian market.

Today, JYSK operates 126 stores in Spain, 24 in Portugal, and employs around 1,400 people on the peninsula. The typical store concept covers roughly 1,300 square meters, including sales floors, warehousing, and back-office spaces, situated in cities with populations exceeding 60,000 residents and in locations such as shopping centers and large parks.

The employment engine and the best place to work

“Expansion and growth at JYSK create significant employment opportunities and open doors for professional development. The plan envisions about 300 new hires and more than 100 internal promotions each year,” explains Belén Quirós, Human Resources Director for JYSK Spain and Portugal.

In Spain, JYSK has earned recognition as a top workplace. It has earned the title Great Place to Work and topped Spain’s Best Workplaces 2023, ranking first among retail companies and sixth in the category for organizations with more than 1,000 employees. The survey highlights show how engaged the workforce is in daily operations and strategic direction.

The broader results reveal that eight in ten JYSK employees consider the company a great place to work. Key metrics point to strong trust in managers (85%), clear understanding of the management’s vision (85%), and high cooperation among colleagues (84%).

“We are on track to become the preferred employer in the retail sector. This vision reflects the energy of our teams, their commitment, and the enjoyment they find in their work and in collaborating together. With the people who make up JYSK and their determination, we will continue to ensure the company’s sustained growth,” adds Carlos Haba.
