A complex case of sexual abuse involving a 53 year old man and a 71 year old man who acted as a close family friend and the godfather of two children has been handled by the National Police after a sustained sequence of complaints from family members. According to investigations, the first minor, aged between twelve and fourteen, was subjected to repeated sexual assaults over a period of about four years. The youngsters disclosed the abuse to their mothers, who had repeatedly raised concerns with the Mallorca Institute for Social Affairs IMAS in Consell de Mallorca. In those instances, the authorities were not alerted by the mothers, a point that prompted renewed scrutiny of how protective services responded to the disclosures. The inquiry only gained momentum after a complaint from another department, the Direcció General d Afers Socials, triggering a formal police investigation that culminated in the arrests last Tuesday.
In this troubling case the two adults are said to have exploited the children by bringing them to the 71 year old man a trusted individual who lived within reach of the family. The older man allegedly used his access to the children to commit sexual offenses over several years. Reports indicate that money or gifts were given to the minors as a means of keeping them silent, and there are claims that the payments extended to the children’s own father who allowed or facilitated access to the youngsters. The abuse is described as pervasive and ongoing until police intervention.
Authorities say the victims were taken to the home of the 71 year old, where the abuse allegedly occurred repeatedly. The suspected abuser was a person known to the family through social circles and was considered an intimate friend who was trusted by the family. The father decoupled from the situation at times, reacting with anger when confronted, and at other moments denying or minimizing the severity of what was happening. The allegations have raised serious questions about the effectiveness of local protective services and how quickly they respond to cries for help from minors and their guardians. A formal investigation by the Family and Children’s Unit UFAM is now underway, and the police have taken statements from both mothers, the victims, and others who may have relevant information. The case underscores the critical role of social services in safeguarding minors and the importance of timely reporting to law enforcement in preventing further harm.
