MAN under Volkswagen Group lineup transfers assets to a Russian unit

In a strategic move within the Volkswagen Group, MAN has transferred its assets to a Russian subsidiary. The local dealer network—MAN Truck Chelny, which operates in Kazan and Naberezhnye Chelny—now holds full ownership of the regional representative office, effectively taking control of a complete stake. Since 2011, MAN has been producing chassis for dump trucks and the MAN TGS main tractors at a facility located in Saint Petersburg, a site that has grown into a key part of the company’s manufacturing footprint in Russia.

Volkswagen flagged the change at the end of October, noting its intention to divest certain Russian assets to MAN within the year. The group also signaled plans to divest local assets related to Scania, a rival brand within the freight sector, as well as the activities tied to luxury car maker Porsche. Both Scania and MAN have long been significant players in Russia’s heavy-duty trucking market, where the sector has experienced notable activity in recent years. In 2021, the Russian Federation recorded just over 100,000 sales of medium and large trucks, according to data from the Avtostat information portal, underscoring the scale of demand in the region.

Requires 7,000 tires in popular sizes

The need for reliable tire supply is tied to public order and essential services, a reality that becomes evident when examining how communities sustain safety and health networks. Initiatives tied to vehicle readiness are not just about private fleets; they also support public institutions and emergency services. In collaboration with a civic organization known for its community-driven efforts, volunteers began gathering funds to purchase tires for vehicles used by the People’s Police and operational services within the Donetsk and Lugansk regions, along with ambulances, emergency response teams, and vehicles that deliver humanitarian aid to residents in conflict-affected areas. These efforts also extend to the transport needs of military equipment when required. Contributions can be made through the designated campaign page, where supporters can donate to help meet tire needs for critical fleets.
