In January 2022, the Pavlogradsky District Court in the Omsk region completed a criminal case review regarding a triple killing that involved an 18-year-old student and his 15-year-old girlfriend. The court imposed sentences of six years and seven months in a prison colony and six years and six months in a training colony respectively. The regional Investigative Committee spokesperson, Larisa Boldinova, confirmed these terms. Both defendants were also ordered to jointly compensate the seven-year-old son of the victims with one million rubles. The decision has not yet entered into force (as reported by the regional press).

On the morning of January 22, 2022, in a private home in Yuryevka village, bodies were found: a 35-year-old woman, her 10-year-old daughter with cerebral palsy, and a 38-year-old man who was living with the family. Neighbors reported that an unknown intruder entered during the night and stabbed the adults and the child. A younger sibling, then six, managed to escape and sought help from neighbors. The scene showed extensive violence, with investigators noting heavy bloodstains on floors, walls, and furniture. Forensic assessments described dozens of stab wounds on the woman, numerous wounds on the man, and many more on the disabled child (as cited by Kommersant).

The surviving sister provided police with details that helped identify the alleged killer. A manhunt ensued, and investigators conducted extensive forensic examinations to verify the information. regional officials later stated that initial suspicions about the girl’s account were raised by seasoned investigators, based on the crime scene analysis and evidence collected (as reported by the regional Investigative Committee).

Shortly after the tragedy, the schoolgirl and her boyfriend were detained on suspicion of murder. They reportedly confessed to participating in the killings. Investigators stated that the 14-year-old schoolgirl allegedly urged her 17-year-old boyfriend to kill her mother and stepfather to prevent opposition to their relationship, which had caused ongoing family strife (as reported by the Investigative Committee). The girl also contemplated harming her younger sister, who had cerebral palsy, and was upset that the sister had taken her belongings. The plot appeared carefully planned; the younger man took a bayonet and sharpened it in advance. Around 02:00 on January 22, the 17-year-old allegedly entered the home from the yard with an accomplice opening the door. Mortal wounds were then inflicted on the sleeping adults and the young girl’s sister.

During interrogations, the suspect provided detailed information about the crime and even surrendered the weapon—the knife hidden in a snowbank along the route—and the bloody clothing worn at the time. Police noted that the younger man fled to neighbors with his brother, claiming that an intruder had killed his relatives. The teenage couple both admitted wrongdoing, with the girl partially acknowledging involvement in the sister’s fate, arguing she did not intend to cause her death. Forensic-psychiatric assessments found the mental health of the two suspects to be within normal limits for their age (as cited by official statements).

Charges were brought under Part 2 of Article 105 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation, which covers murder of two or more persons, including minors, committed with particular cruelty by a group acting in concert. The suspects were placed in pre-trial detention. By mid-September of the previous year, the regional department of the Investigative Committee finished the case materials and sent them to the prosecutor for indictment approval, after which they went to court. The hearing occurred behind closed doors, and the maximum penalty for minors in such grave offenses is ten years’ imprisonment. Officials also noted lapses in local policing and supervision of the male suspect, who had prior registrations with child services, resulting in disciplinary actions for several officials (as reported by regional authorities).
