Meteor Sighting Over Krasnoyarsk Territory and Notable Meteorite Finds

Residents of the Krasnoyarsk Territory captured footage of a meteor streaking across the night sky. The video appeared on the Telegram channel “PE Krasnoyarsk.”

In clips recorded by a car dash cam, a bright celestial object moved above a village. The meteor shimmered with a blue flame for several minutes before it exploded, scattering into fragments that eventually faded away.

Witnesses reported hearing loud bangs and a sense of tremor inside homes as the object moved through the atmosphere and landed somewhere near Krasnoyarsk.

Separately, an international team of chemists, guided by specialists from the Technical University of Munich, examined the Martian meteorite known as It shows the presence of a wide variety of organic compounds. In 2011, a meteorite of the same name fell near a village in Morocco, drawing global scientific interest.

On January 20, researchers from a natural history museum noted the discovery of a black meteorite weighing eight kilograms in Antarctica. The continent is regarded as a premier destination for meteorite hunting, in part because its desert-like climate minimizes weathering and preserves rock specimens well.
