The Jerez-born artist known as Maria Terremoto has long been recognized for breaking ground in flamenco. She stunned audiences at sixteen by earning prestigious honors such as the Giraldillo Revelation at the Seville Biennale de Flamenco and La Venencia Flamenca. Through those early triumphs, she established herself as a defining figure in cante jondo, carrying forward the lineage of the Terremoto family while infusing traditional kante with a modern sensibility that appeals to new listeners. Her arrival on the flamenco stage marked a turning point, inviting both critics and fans to view a revered art form through a fresh, contemporary lens. Her hometown roots in Jerez remain a constant source of inspiration as she transforms the performance into something vivid and accessible without losing its depth.
The 22-year-old Maria Terremoto has already left a tangible mark on the market. Her journey, titled The Trace of My Feelings, has drawn strong public and critical support. Touring Europe and the Americas, she ventured beyond the familiar borders of orthodox flamenco, challenging audiences to broaden their expectations and to experience flamenco as a living, evolving cultural expression rather than a fixed tradition. The tour underscored her belief that the art form could travel with integrity while embracing a wider, more diverse audience.
For this special occasion, Maria chose to strip away musical gimmicks and elaborate prose, presenting herself in the most sincere, traditional mode possible, always accompanied by a guitar and two hands clapping. The approach created a direct, almost tactile link with the audience, free from distractions or external interference, allowing the music to breathe and speak on its own terms.
The Mediterranean Flamenco Festival is a dynamic program supported by the Mediterranean Foundation.
The goal is to bring flamenco culture closer to Alicante and Murcia, recognizing both cities as cultural and tourist anchors that connect the rich potential of flamenco as the Living Heritage of Humanity.
