In the region of Karelia, a man breached a private home, menacing a mother and her young child with a knife. This account comes from the press service of the Investigative Directorate of the Regional Investigative Committee of Russia.

The event occurred toward the end of November last year in the village of Pindushi, located in the Medvezhyegorsk district. A man who appeared intoxicated, aged 27, approached the front door of a private residence and requested entry. After his request was refused, he forced the door and entered the room where the mother and her little daughter were staying.

Once inside, the intruder demanded money from the girl while brandishing the knife. The child refused to leave the house, yet did not hand over any money. The victims promptly alerted law enforcement authorities to the incident.

The suspect was apprehended and charged with illegal entry and extortion. During questioning, he acknowledged his guilt and expressed remorse for the crime. A court appearance has been scheduled in the near future.

Earlier, in Rostov-on-Don, a hearing was held involving former Ministry of Internal Affairs employees who were apprehended on charges of extortion and robbery.
