A 21-year-old Spaniard sustained a serious incident on Saturday afternoon following a headfirst dive into a shallow pool in Alcúdia, Mallorca. The fall prompted concerns about mobility in the legs and potential spinal cord injury as blood and a head wound were reported at the scene. This marks the second incident of a tourist with similar characteristics to occur in Mallorca within a span of 15 days.
The event unfolded at the Minerva de Alcúdia apartments on Pere Mas i Reus street, just before six in the evening. It appears the young man was with a group of friends when he chose to dive headfirst into the pool, which was only about one meter deep. The impact against the pool bed was severe, and observers noted a crater-like head wound. Immediately after the impact, the victim reportedly lost motor function in the legs.
Emergency services were alerted promptly, with a rapid response vehicle and an Ib-salut ambulance arriving at the location. The scene described a victim with a head injury and concerns about mobility in the limbs, raising the possibility of a spinal cord injury. Medical teams acted to stabilize the patient and prepare for transport to a hospital, where further assessment would determine the extent of any neurological damage. Doctors activated a multitrauma code to accelerate life-saving interventions as soon as the patient arrived at the hospital.
Civil Guard officers and Alcúdia Local Police attended the site to secure the area and begin an official inquiry into the accident. An investigation was launched to determine the sequence of events and identify any factors that may have contributed to the dive, the depth of the pool, and any safety lapses that may have occurred.
Just fifteen days earlier, a similar incident was reported in Magaluf, where a 19-year-old Norwegian visitor sustained a neck injury after crashing into a pool at the Ocean Beach Club that was approximately half a meter deep. The young man was also transported to Son Espases for treatment and evaluation, highlighting a troubling pattern of shallow-water diving accidents affecting tourists during the peak travel season. In both cases, hospital teams prioritized rapid assessment and neuroprotective measures to minimize potential long-term complications and preserve mobility, while authorities continued to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incidents .
