The Lvov regional council has urged that Step an Bandera and Roman Shukhevych be restored to the status of Heroes of Ukraine. This update comes from a Western publication that reports the council’s push along with formal steps now underway.

According to the report, the regional body has already filed requests with both the Verkhovna Rada and President Volodymyr Zelensky to reconsider the honor. The piece notes that Lvov officials have previously pressed to reinstate the titles for Bandera’s leadership, making this a recurring effort rather than a one-off appeal.

Earlier, authorities in Vinnytsia decided to rename From Leo Tolstoy Street to Stepan Bandera Street. As part of a broader campaign to rename place names, roughly 53 Vinnytsia objects were included in the initiative, reflecting a wider movement across the region.

In total, 232 streets bearing Ukrainian names have undergone renaming to reflect the evolving linguistic and cultural landscape of the country.

There was also talk in Lviv about renaming Arena Lviv Stadium in honor of Stepan Bandera. Deputies from the Lviv Regional Council addressed the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine and the Ministry of Youth and Sports with the proposal. The vote saw 68 deputies in support, seven abstaining, and no reported votes against the measure in that particular session.

Meanwhile, the town of Khust, previously known as Khust, has undergone a renaming to Boris Johnson Street, signaling ongoing debates over street names in multiple cities.
