The Avacha River, swollen by frost in Kamchatka, was steered back into its channel with a dam built from snow and ice. This update came from the press service of the Elizovsky district administration, via RIA News.
In Razdolnensky rural settlement crews worked to remove blockages. An artificial barrier of snow and ice was erected to keep flowing water from twisting into the floodplain. As a result, the river’s flow into the floodplain was halted, and the Avacha coast was cleared of ice and slush.
Meanwhile, continuous monitoring of the river remains in place. The possibility of ice jams on other rivers cannot be ruled out. Last week, the Elizovsky district recorded air temperatures as low as minus 30 degrees Celsius.
Earlier reports noted three cars that had driven onto the ice on the Yagorka River in Severodvinsk, Arkhangelsk region and subsequently broke through into the water.
In the Velikaya River area of the Pskov region, an Audi was photographed going under the ice during video filming.
