The old saying that even the dead do not truly rest often reflects the chaos of war and the sharp sting of disrespect. In a notable case tied to a Zaragoza businessman who passed away last October, the question of what happened after the funeral drew intense attention. Three hours after the ceremony, an intruder breached the chalet in the Montecanal district, taking 100,000 euros in cash, jewelry valued at around 40,000 euros, and a prized Apple device. As reported by EL PERIÓDICO DE ARAGÓN, the victim’s closest confidant—a friend who cared for him—emerged as a central figure in the unfolding events, and the incident was logged with the National Police Service.

The investigation, conducted by the Aragon Police Department’s Home Burglary Unit, began with a formal complaint from the deceased’s heirs on January 24. The family explained that the businessman had died on October 18 after a long battle with brain cancer. Throughout the illness, the person who would become the main suspect acted as the caregiver, with the family compensating him monthly for his services, a detail the relatives later disclosed during inquiries.

The complainants described a troubling pattern: the caregiver had access to the home and was aware of the hidden cash and several pieces of jewelry, including a gold watch, a pearl necklace, diamond earrings, and a ring set with diamonds and emeralds. The money and valuables were concealed in a secret bag placed at the top of a closet. The day after the businessman’s death, the family reported the disappearance of his mobile phone.

The surprise deepened when, by early December, the computer, additional money, and the jewelry had vanished as well. From that point onward, the family began to connect the dots, leading investigators to consider the caretaker as the likely perpetrator. They have proposed the date of the robbery as October 20, pinpointing the exact moment as occurring just three hours after the burial. The family members also recalled a meeting in a downtown bar in Zaragoza in the hours following the funeral, a detail they say places the suspect at the scene during the crucial period.

The woman, who was reported to be at work around noon, left her job with the intent to return later. She reportedly came back to the bar at 3 p.m., and the family now asserts that during those three hours she visited the late businessman’s home to collect the listed items. A security guard from the residential complex reportedly observed the woman leaving with the same bag that contained the money and jewelry. At present, investigators have not announced any arrests as the inquiry continues.

Authorities are carefully reviewing all statements and surveillance records while compiling the timeline of events. The case remains active, with investigators examining every lead and re-interviewing witnesses to establish a clear sequence of actions and to determine whether other parties were involved. The ongoing process includes revisiting house access details, caregiver responsibilities, and financial arrangements made between the family and the person who had cared for the deceased, all in an effort to corroborate or challenge the family’s account of the burglary.
