The immunity of Senator Dmitry Savelyev has been removed amid suspicions of involvement in a homicide. This information comes from DEA News, citing an official representative of the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Russian Federation, Andrey Ivanov.
Ivanov confirmed approval for lifting the senator’s immunity when asked about the reasons behind the legal move.
At this time, specifics of the murder case in which Savelyev is implicated remain undisclosed.
Senator Savelyev has represented the Tula region since 2016. Before joining the Federation Council, he served as a deputy in the State Duma during its sixth convocation, where he sat on the committee dedicated to natural resources, environmental management, and ecology.
From October 2016 through November 2023, he was a member of the Federation Council’s Budget and Financial Markets Committee. He subsequently joined the Economic Policy Committee.
Earlier reports from RIA Novosti, based on law enforcement sources, indicated that Russian Prosecutor General Igor Krasnov had petitioned the Federation Council to lift Savelyev’s immunity.
A separate note mentioned that a former deputy attorney general’s son received a twenty-year sentence for ordering four killings, a detail that adds context to the broader discussions surrounding high-profile investigations in the region.
