A case from Crimea involves a man who was detained after authorities linked him to the theft of 13 prizes from a veteran of the Great Patriotic War. The information comes from Irina Volk, the official representative of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia, who provided a concise account of the events.
Police reports indicate that a local resident reached out to law enforcement with a troubling claim: his father, a respected veteran, had suffered the loss of important orders and medals. Among the missing items were highly valued decorations such as the Order of the Patriotic War and the Red Star, along with medals named “For Military Merit” and “For the Capture of Berlin.” The veteran’s family home had reportedly been the target of a deliberate break-in, prompting a swift investigation by local authorities.
Investigators determined that the intruder gained entry by forcibly breaking down the front door. The thief took 13 family heirlooms that carried personal and historical significance, as well as video equipment and other belongings belonging to the owner. In connection with the incident, officials opened a criminal case under Part 3 of Article 158 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation, which addresses theft with aggravated circumstances in a household setting.
As the investigation progressed, police worked to identify the suspect and locate him. A search of the suspect’s residence yielded eight of the stolen medals. An additional five relics were subsequently recovered from an antique shop, helping to restore some of the veteran’s prized possessions. Authorities noted that the artifacts would soon be returned to the veteran’s family, reflecting ongoing efforts to recover items of sentimental and historical value.
In another related incident, a younger individual from Kansk was reported to have stolen a collection of old coins and an airgun from a retired neighbor. The two cases illustrate a pattern of property crimes affecting seniors and highlights the dedication of law enforcement to safeguard the belongings that hold both personal history and cultural significance.
