The green light for the new season has arrived. Because it is not yet clear which companies will win contracts to run the programs in the 2023-24 fiscal year, the Official State Gazette (BOE) published the notice this morning. Places for the elderly under the Imserso program are allocated across Spain, with the holiday shifts set to begin in the coming month. They will run through October and then resume in June of the following year.

Specifically, the Ministry of Social Rights, led by Ione Belarra, is releasing details about the upcoming season of the program and opening a window for new applicants who were not previously involved. Those who meet the requirements can apply electronically through the Imserso Electronic Office starting this Thursday and continuing until Tuesday, July 25. After submitting, applicants can either send the result via the program’s telematics system or by registered mail in a stamped envelope to the Imserso Tourism Program address: PO Box 10.140, 28080 Madrid.

People who were accredited in prior seasons will receive a document at home containing their personal information and destination preferences. Requests only need to be resent if any data has changed.

Contacts

Who can access the Imserso 2023-24 program? All residents of Spain, as stated in the BOE, who meet any of the following criteria: retired pensioners of the Spanish Social Security system; widowed retirees aged fifty-five and over; retirees for other reasons of the Spanish Social Security system or recipients of unemployment benefits or subsidies at age sixty or older; those aged sixty-five or older or insured or eligible under the Spanish Social Security system.

Spaniards living abroad are eligible as long as they have a Spanish social security pension, and Spaniards returning from abroad may participate provided they have retired from the public social security systems of the country or countries to which they migrated.

Applicants may be accompanied by a spouse or, where applicable, a partner with a stable or cohabiting relationship of similar standing to a marriage. Children with a disability of at least 45% may accompany their parents if they stay in the same room or pay the surcharge for single rooms where available.

Evaluation of applications

Several factors influence the assessment of applications. These include age (younger applicants may earn points, while those 78 and older can accumulate up to 20 points), disability (up to 10 points), financial means (lower pensions attract more points, while pensions above a threshold can significantly reduce benefits), prior participation in the program (up to 225 points), and whether the applicant has extended family membership (up to 10 points).
