Another powerful earthquake struck Hatay, following the region’s recent disaster. The national disaster management agency reported two strong aftershocks, magnitudes 6.4 and 5.8, occurring within minutes of each other. The first quake, a 6.4, hit Defne at 20:04 local time, aligning with Moscow time, with the epicenter about 17 kilometers beneath the surface. The second, a 5.8, followed at 20:07 near Samandag, with its origin about 16.7 kilometers deep. The European Seismological Center indicated that tremors were felt across a wide area, including Lebanon, Syria, Israel, Cyprus, Jordan, Iraq, Palestine, and Egypt, roughly 400 kilometers from the epicenter. These events area a sobering reminder of the region’s vulnerability to seismic activity and the ongoing risk to residents and responders.
