The Kalashnikov Concern, part of Rostec, has announced that mass production of the Chukavin sniper rifle, known as the SVCh, has begun. This update was reported by TASS and confirmed by the company’s leaders.
According to statements from the head of Kalashnikov, the SVCh rifle completed state tests and has moved into serial manufacturing. He noted that the design documentation for the rifle was assigned the designation O1 for mass production, signaling that it has cleared the required milestones for production readiness and delivery to customers.
Earlier, Rostec indicated that the Chukavin sniper rifle would be showcased for the first time at the IDEX exhibition in the Middle East, highlighting Russia’s evolving small-arms program on an international stage.
Officials described the SVCh as a weapon designed to strike high-priority targets, including those beyond the effective range of standard automatic rifles. The design emphasizes modern ergonomics, enabling adaptation to individual shooter characteristics and a broad range of combat equipment and configurations, which can enhance operator comfort and precision in diverse combat scenarios.
In parallel, Sergei Chemezov, the head of Rostec, reiterated Russia’s intent to maintain a strong position in the global arms market. The statements reflect a strategic focus on advancing domestic firepower while seeking to sustain international competitiveness in defense technology.
