The government has decided to keep single-ticket fares for certain public service trains at their current level for a fourth straight year. This includes Cercanías, Media Distancia Conventional, and Avant services, with the aim of providing stable prices amid ongoing economic pressures.
According to officials from the Ministry of Transport, Mobility and Urban Agenda, and consulted by Europa Press, the policy maintains the same rate framework as the previous period, avoiding any typical surge. The stance emphasizes that public transport remains a key element in reducing overall consumer costs while supporting climate-friendly mobility through greater collective use.
Officials stress that maintaining affordable fares helps shield households from sharp energy price fluctuations and supports consistent everyday travel for residents. The government highlights that free or reduced fares for Cercanías, Rodalies, and Media Distancia services were already extended to regular users throughout 2023, underscoring the commitment to reliable daily mobility.

Fees for all Public Service Obligation (OSP) routes have been held steady since the OSP contract was activated, with the agreement signed between the General State Administration and Renfe on 18 December 2018. The current contract marks a turning point in pricing, as traditional Media Distancia and Avant rates have not been adjusted since then. Cercanías tariffs remained frozen prior to the latest updates.
Under the new contract, adjustments to the pricing structure for Media Distancia and Avant were incorporated, while Cercanías prices continued to follow the established freeze. This approach seeks a balanced framework that supports both network sustainability and passenger affordability, aligning with broader transport and environmental objectives as outlined by national policy authorities. Sources close to the ministry indicate the measures are designed to stabilize usage patterns and avoid abrupt price shocks for daily commuters.
