Gen Generalitat is gearing up to partner with the footwear sector to boost sustainability and set a European benchmark in this field. This commitment was outlined by the Regional Secretary for Industry, Trade and Consumer Affairs, Felipe Carrasco, during a visit to Pikokaizen, the production hub of Pikolinos located in the Elche business park, on a recent Friday. The visit provided Carrasco with a firsthand look at the operations and an opportunity to discuss shared goals with industry leaders and policymakers alike.
During the tour, Carrasco met with Rosana Perán, president of the Spanish Footwear Industry Federation, and with Marian Cano, the autonomous delegate from Avecal. The exchanges focused on how collaboration between regional authorities and the footwear sector can accelerate sustainability initiatives, digital transformation, and responsible growth that benefits workers, communities, and the broader economy.
Speaking from the heart of the Elche facility, the regional manager highlighted Pikolinos as a beacon not only for its international outreach but also for its clear commitment to building a durable, sustainable brand. He pointed to the company’s long-standing policy of prioritizing people, noting that a culture of trust and investment in internal talent has been central from day one. This emphasis on people and talent aligns with a broader regional strategy that seeks to embed sustainable practices across the supply chain while encouraging knowledge sharing across the industry.
The visit underscored the intention of the autonomous administration to support sectoral initiatives that advance sustainability and transform companies so they can serve as reference points across Europe. The discussions touched on a range of topics, including circular economy practices, energy efficiency, and responsible sourcing, all aimed at strengthening the competitiveness of regional firms while maintaining social and environmental responsibilities.
Marian Cano, representing Avecal, expressed appreciation for the ongoing, constructive dialogue with the Consell. He emphasized that sustainability should be understood through three interconnected lenses: economic viability, circular economy principles, and social responsibility. This triad is seen as essential to achieving durable growth and to ensuring that the footwear industry can thrive in a modern, globally competitive market without compromising local communities or the environment.
