Gasoline prices have slipped for the ninth straight week, resulting in an average of 1.586 euros per liter after a 20 cent per liter state discount is applied. This confirms the lowest level seen since February. Diesel prices have bounced back for the first time in two months, landing at 1.616 euros per liter.

Both fuels held steady according to data released on Thursday by the EU Petroleum Bulletin. The bulletin aggregates averages from more than 11,400 Spanish service stations for the period of August 16 to 22. The report highlights that even with public support, prices remain under the 2 euro mark per liter in many areas.

With these readings, gasoline has fallen by about 0.7 percent over the last seven days, marking a ninth consecutive weekly decrease. Diesel, conversely, is up roughly 0.6 percent from a week earlier, its first uptick since late June.

In the past week, petrol reached its lowest point since mid-February, when prices hovered around 1.575 euros per liter. Diesel touched its lowest point since the second week of April, though it has inched higher to around 1.613 euros per liter. Both fuels sit below the levels recorded at the end of March, when a 20 cent per liter government bonus was introduced for all consumers.

Excluding the government discount, gasoline typically costs about 2 euros per liter on average, with a national mean near 1.786 euros and diesel around 1.816 euros.

The climb in fuel costs since the start of the year has weighed on households and businesses alike. Oil price trends have shown some reversal recently, and this shift is slowly reflected in the final pump prices.

In response to the impact of higher gasoline and diesel costs, the government extended the 20 cent per liter bonus for all consumers through the end of the year. The measure aims to cushion households from volatility at the pump while supporting mobility and economic activity.

Even with historic highs, the price gap remains modest when compared with the European average. EU statistics indicate that after discounts, the national average stands around 1.766 euros per liter for gasoline and 1.827 euros for diesel.
